Eco Targa Florio 2012: race starts at historic venue

Sicily is offering a friendly welcome to participants in the Eco Targa Florio 2012. Conditions continue to be excellent for the first stage of the race on October 11. In warm sunny weather the 65 Ferraris in the Ferrari Tribute fleet and the 140 classic cars competing in the Targa Florio Classic set off on the legendary course and complete the Piccolo Circuito delle Madonie. The starting gun for the first stage is fired in front of the historic Cerda grandstands, where the first Targa Florio also began in 1906. After a break in Caltagirone, the drivers meet at Donnafugata Castle as darkness falls. The 19th century building has inspired many film-makers and was the location for several scenes in Visconti’s “The Leopard”.
