Sicily is a Mecca for historic rally sports with the Eco Targa Florio

The mountain roads of Sicily provide a perfect setting for a car race. Paying tribute to the historic Targa Florio (1906 to 1977), today’s event Eco Targa Florio from 11th to 14th October 2012 also takes a very modern approach to environmental issues. Drivers have the opportunity to race on parts of the classic Circuito delle Madonie. But speed is not the only aim. In the interests of sustainability, competitors also have to show that they can run their cars at a steady pace.

Three different categories of cars are allowed to participate: The Eco Trophy showcases vehicles powered by alternative energy – earning this competition its popular name: the ‘Green Prix’. The Classic category celebrates beautiful vintage cars, including models from some of the best international collections. Any car manufactured between 1906 and 1977 is eligible, though priority is given to models and chassis that actually featured in the historic race. Finally the Ferrari Tribute is an authentic regularity rally featuring the iconic cars built in Maranello between 1948 and today.
